Being proved right is a great feeling, especially when it comes to whisky. For the fifth dram of my tasting, I wanted a whisky that evoked all the best things I associate with Speyside whiskies: sherry casks, fruit-cake spices, and dusty dunnage warehousing. I thought it would be interesting to find a distillery that most people would have heard of, but to choose a whisky they would not have had. Diving into the James Eadie collection, I found the perfect-looking dram, and on first sniff I knew it was exactly what I was hoping for. Big, boozy, and full of chewy sherry.

Aroma: Musty old books, sherry fruit and dusty dunnage warehouses.

Taste: This whisky is all about big, waxy, almost chewy sherry fruit. It starts rich and creamy, like custard poured on Christmas pudding, then the middle is full of dried raisins, sultanas, and some citrus peel. It finishes with a gingery, warming spice that lasts for days.

Real Dram Factor: Exactly the kind of thing that we love – 9.0

You will like this if: you wish it could be Christmas every day.
