Meeting an old friend after a long time apart is one of life’s great pleasures. You are quickly reminded what a joy it is to be in others’ company, and the more time you spend together, the more you reveal the depth of that joy. The same is true of a favoured whisky that you haven’t had in a while. Coming back to Glen Scotia 15 was a real pleasure. I had forgotten just how good it is and all that it has to offer. Tasting it, I knew it would be a perfect fourth dram for my whisky tasting, so I kept the bottle, knowing it would be a crowd pleaser and a great way to start the second half of the night.
Aroma: Strawberry jam, dried fruit, and stewed apples. Notes of baking wafting from a window in a coastal town as the salty sea air whips your face.
Taste: Initially very sweet, like apricot jam, then it becomes more fruity and rich, like a tea bread or a brack. There is gentle cinnamon and nutmeg spice, which lingers and becomes sweeter and creamier with drinking.
Real Dram Factor: This dram can feel small at first, but it opens, widens, and brings more joy as you drink it. A definite crowd pleaser and great value too!
You will like this if: you give it the time that it deserves. A slow-burning hit, like Voices of Animals and Men by The Young Knives.
