Wm Cadenhead’s is a whisky company you can trust. They produce fantastic whisky, and I have never bought a bottle from them that has been anything less than great. I spent a very long time at the Cadenhead’s table at the Exploring Whisky Bristol festival.
Aroma: Sweet with caramel, but slightly synthetic — almost Caramac-like. It becomes creamy and vegetal, like popcorn. There is aniseed spice and big wafts of charcoal smoke.
Taste: At first, sweet and salty — like salty pretzels, sweet-and-salty popcorn, or Chinese restaurant seaweed. It becomes creamy, like crème brûlée with a caramelised topping. Then there is a big punch of cigar smoke, lemon sherbet sweets, and the heat of pepper.
Real Dram Factor: This is one of those classic Islay malts — big and bold, but gentle and nuanced at the same time.
You will like this if: You don’t mind being punched in the face and then stroked gently.
ABV: 57.7%
Price: £100 – 110
