I love competitions; I always have. From the roll and choose of the tombola, to the like and retweet of social media. I have invested hours into trying to be the winner. The best thing is and has always been sharing the wins with friends. Usually, it is me doing the sharing, but not this time. The lovely Simon shared his Still In Cask win with me and here are my thoughts.
Aroma: This is a vinous, almost chewy whisky on the nose. It has a pastoral field full of crops note, but also a jammy red wine like quality to it too. It is sweet and fruity but does have a spice to it too – maybe black pepper.
Taste: You would expect a whisky at this ABV and youth to punch you directly in the face with its alcohol content, but you would be wrong. Its first notes are a creamy, vanilla-like quality, like custard creams. It could even be mistaken for Chantilly cream and strawberries.
The second notes are jammy, bramble fruits – like a cross between red wine and raspberry jam. There is an acidity, but it is still sweet and delicate.
Finally, there is a building, darkly sweet spice that reminds me of black pepper, but also dark chocolate. It is fruity, sweet and yet cheekily bold.
Real Dram Factor: Jammy chocolate whisky made locally in an interesting way, might easily be my new favourite thing ever. I definitely need more Circumstance in my life – 8.5
You will like this if: you live by the mantra: think local, drink local (and you live in Bristol 😉
ABV: 61.9%
Price: Was £49.00, but it is completely sold out.
