My son is fascinated with science. He is only six, but he absorbs information like a sponge and he would spend all day every day reading non-fiction books if he could. His latest obsession is space and so we have spent ages learning all about the topic from loads of different kids’ books. He asked me a question tonight about what was present before the Big Bang and I turned to him and said, “If I am honest, I don’t really know how to explain that or comprehend it at all either.” He shrugged his shoulders, chuckled and moved on to the next thing. Sometimes, it’s okay not to understand.
Aroma: This is a green, lush, almost tropical whisky on the nose. It has a funky, spicy note too, but its overriding characteristic is apple sweets. Think Jolly Ranchers apple and you won’t be far away.
Taste: The first notes are marshmallow sweetness. Light, delicate and full of icing sugar notes. There is a tropical quality too, but that comes slightly later and reminds me of tinned fruit from the 80’s.
The middle of this whisky feels smoky to me. It is like leaf tobacco or a very green bonfire, burning wide banana leaves.
The end is a dark, dry warming spice. Like a muscovado sugar or star anise. It is wooden, but also sweet and still green.
Real Dram Factor: This is a complex whisky, both in its production and its palate. It still retains the White Peak Distillery’s tropical style, but it captures it in a different way and presents it to you differently. I am a massive fan – 8.8
You will like this if: You like trying to understand complex things or you are just happy to revel in the not knowingness.
