If I could give you one piece of advice, it would have nothing to do with sunscreen. Whenever you see a hand fill distillery exclusive, it is cask strength and less than £100 – then buy it! (even if you need to sell a kidney to do so). There is no purer whisky experience than the distillery exclusive. I am yet to taste one that isn’t incredible, and I still regret not buying a few of them at times when space in the suitcase or trip budget was low (Looking at you Glendronach especially).

This particular bottling is from White Peak Distillery – read the tour review HERE. and I bought it to share with my Real Dram buddies.

Aroma: This whisky is sweet and full of berry fruit. It has almond notes, like marzipan and has a syrupy sweet, yet spiced quality that reminds me of mince pies.

Taste: The first notes are a super sweet and syrupy – somewhere in between stewed plums and honeyed pastry. They are almost floral, with a Parma Violet like quality.

The middle develops into a lovely warming waft of wooden chimney smoke. It is darker, but still has a juicy fruit forward quality. On further drinking, it felt like there was a buttery toasted teacake flavour in the middle too.

The final notes have a tannic like dryness, that is full of fruit and wood. The heat lasts a long time and is somewhere between freshly cracked black pepper and chilli jam.

Real Dram Factor: This is a fantastic whisky. It is big, robust, but still so delicate. You taste all of the distillery character, all of the cask and even some of the punchy ABV – 8.9

You will like this if: you like to cling on the Christmas slightly too long.

ABV: 61.7%
