What is the greatest combination in the history of food and drink?

Beans and Hendos?

Eggs and Bacon?

Chips and Gravy?

Well, whatever your answer, beer and whisky has to be somewhere near the top of the league.

So, when I saw that Overtone, who make some of my favourite beers in the world, had combined with Lochlea on a Stout Cask finish whisky, I was immediately fully invested and ready to part with my hard-earned cash on request.

Aroma: Full of freshly made sourdough rye bread, which has been toasted and layered with creamy yoghurt, tropical fruits and honey. At once savoury and also sweet, there is a florality that drags across this whisky’s aroma like a field full of blossoming wildflowers.

Palate: The start is gentle, sweet and super tropical. Like tinned tropical fruit, it is thick with sugar and the fruitiness of peaches, but there is also the suggestion of berries, maybe even cherries. The middle opens wider to a dark coffee fruit, that is chocolatey, and full of creamy vanilla. As the dram passes away, the end is a gentle gingery, syrupy spice – almost Jamaican Ginger cake like.

Real Dram Factor: Like a quiet country pub, this whisky gives joy without all the hullabaloo – 8.2

You will like this if: you enjoy spending far too long doing crosswords.
